Filezilla

Filezilla is an FTP, SCP and SFTP client for Windows, Mac and Linux. It can be used to copy files from your own computer to Bert or SCW.

Download

Connect to Bert

Create an entry for Bert (first time only)

Click on the file menu, go to Site Manager. Choose New Site, type in the name "Bert", this will change the name of the icon under the My Sites entry on the left hand side. Click on the Host field and enter "bert.ibers.aber.ac.uk", choose SFTP as the protocol. Choose ask for password as the Logon Type. Enter your aber user ID in the User field. This should just be your username, not your full email address. Click Ok to save.

Connecting

Click on the file menu, go to "Site Manager". Click on the "Bert" entry you made before. Click on the Connect button. Enter your Aberystwyth University password The first time you login you'll be told the server's host key is unknown. Click on "Always trust this host, add this key to the cache" and then click on Ok.

Connect to SCW

Create an entry for SCW (first time only)

Click on the file menu, go to Site Manager. Choose New Site, type in the name "SCW", this will change the name of the icon under the My Sites entry on the left hand side. Click on the Host field and enter "scp.hpcwales.co.uk", choose SFTP as the protocol. Choose ask for password as the Logon Type. Enter your HPC Wales user ID in the User field. Click Ok to save.

Connecting

Click on the file menu, go to "Site Manager". Click on the "SCW" entry you made before. Click on the Connect button. Enter your SCW password The first time you login you'll be told the server's host key is unknown. Click on "Always trust this host, add this key to the cache" and then click on Ok.

Your Cardiff home directory is shown by default. Your Swansea home directory is accessible under /hpcw/sw/user.name (where user.name is your username), the Bangor home directory is under /hpcw/ba/user.name. Cardiff is also under /hpcw/cf/user.name.

Enter the path you want into the Remote site text box on the right hand side.

Copying Files with Filezilla

When you connect Filezilla shows two panes, on the left hand side will be your local computer and on the right hand side is the remote computer. To copy a file just drag it from one side to the other or right click on it and choose Upload or Download.
